Mumbai is relentless. After a week of long commutes and back-to-back deadlines, the idea of a resort is appealing — but only if you can actually get there and back without burning a full vacation day. Igatpuri clears that bar with ease. At 110 km from the city on NH-3 (the Mumbai–Nashik Expressway corridor), you can leave after breakfast on Friday and be at your resort by late morning. Come Sunday evening, you're home in time for dinner. The maths work, and the views on the way up the Kasara Ghat make even the drive enjoyable.
Manas Resort is positioned at the very top of the Ghat — literally on the highway, so there's no winding secondary road to navigate after a long drive. Check-in is smooth, your room is ready, and within 20 minutes of arrival you can be at the infinity pool or walking the petting zoo.
Manas Resort sits 110 km from Mumbai (approximately 2 to 2.5 hours by car on NH-3). The drive takes you from the plains of Thane district up through the lush Kasara Ghat — one of the most scenic stretches of highway in Maharashtra. The resort entrance is right at the top of the Ghat, on the left-hand side coming from Mumbai.
By train, Igatpuri Railway Station is on the Central Line and is a frequent stop for Mumbai–Nashik and Mumbai–Bhusaval trains. The resort is 2 km from the station; autos and cabs are available.
Proximity alone doesn't make a great resort experience. Here's what makes Manas the right choice for a Mumbai escape:
Altitude and cool air: Igatpuri sits at roughly 590 metres elevation. During Mumbai summers when the city hits 36°C, the resort runs 4–6°C cooler. Monsoon brings a temperature drop plus the spectacle of fog rolling through the valleys. Winter evenings dip toward 12–15°C — perfect for a bonfire or outdoor barbeque.
Space — 7 acres of it: Mumbai's square footage is precious. At Manas, the contrast hits immediately: open lawns, long sight-lines, and the sensation that you have room to breathe. The property was developed over 30+ years, and today mature trees and curated landscaping give every path and sitting area its own character.
India's first petting zoo: No other resort near Mumbai offers supervised, on-site animal interaction of this scale. Dogs, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, exotic birds, iguanas, tortoises, and more. For families with children — and for pet parents who travel with their dogs — this is the primary draw.
Infinity pool with a 20-ft waterfall: The pool appears to extend into the valley. During monsoon it's atmospheric; during summer mornings it's glassy and quiet before other guests are up. The adjacent kids' pool with a waterfall feature is a reliable crowd-pleaser for families.
9 room categories from ₹16,000/night: Whether you want a compact Koi Vista room for a couple's escape or the 1,000 sq ft Macaw Villa with its private in-room mini pool, there's an option at the right scale and price point. All rooms include Wi-Fi, AC, room service, and daily housekeeping.
Families: The combination of a petting zoo, kids' pool, large lawns for kite-flying and cricket, and a fully fenced property makes Manas the most family-friendly resort on this stretch of highway. Children have structured activities and safe, open spaces; parents have the pool, spa, and Flamingo Bar.
Couples: The quiet villa rooms, sit-out decks overlooking the valley, spa services, and candlelit al-fresco dining create a genuinely romantic setting. The Macaw Villa and Conure Villa are especially popular for anniversary stays.
Corporate groups: Manas has been running corporate events since the early 2000s. A dedicated conference room, banquet spaces, and outdoor activity areas for team-building are combined with accommodation for large groups. Many organisations within 3 hours of Mumbai make Manas their annual offsite venue.
Though many guests tell us they never leave the resort grounds, Igatpuri has worthwhile excursions nearby. Tringalwadi Fort offers a half-day trek with expansive views. Camel Valley and Sandhan Valley appeal to trekking and camping enthusiasts. Dhammagiri (Vipassana International Academy) is a short drive. Waterfalls like Ashoka Falls are most spectacular during monsoon.
Trimbakeshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India, is roughly 90 minutes away — popular for spiritual day trips combined with the resort stay.
Monsoon (June–September): The Sahyadri range at peak green, with dramatic clouds, mist in the valleys, and waterfalls on every hillside. The resort lawns turn vivid; the pool feels like it's floating in mist. Peak season — weekends book fast.
Winter (October–February): Clear skies, cool temperatures, and perfect conditions for outdoor dining, bonfires, and early morning pool sessions. The most comfortable weather for sightseeing around Igatpuri.
Summer (March–May): Warmer than winter but significantly cooler than Mumbai. Weekday availability is higher; pool usage peaks.
